Do you offer engraving or personalisation?

Yes, we’re pleased to offer engraving on over 80% of Hersey products. With on-site engravers, we provide a fast and efficient service. Read more here.

Do you offer gift wrapping or special packaging?

All of our products are presented in a Hersey & Son gift box, accompanied by a care card, tissue paper, and a complimentary polishing cloth. Many products also have an option to add a lovely Hersey & Son gift bag for an additional cost, although some larger products will not have that option as they will not fit into the gift bag.

What shall I do if my silver has tarnished?

Sterling silver is a precious metal alloyed with a small percentage of copper which can react when left in the open air or in contact with any kind of body products, perfume or perspiration in hot weather. This is normal and the copper sulphide (tarnish) can be removed with an impregnated cleaning cloth or a silver cleaning cream or wadding.

How do I measure for a round bangle?

How do I care for Sterling Silver Salt & Peppermills?

How do I clean the sterling silver exterior?

Use a soft silver polishing cloth to gently wipe the surface. Avoid paper towels, tissues, or any abrasive materials. For heavier tarnish, use a silver polish made specifically for sterling silver.

Can I wash the whole mill in water?

No. Never immerse the mill in water. Moisture can damage both the sterling silver and the grinding mechanism. Instead, wipe with a dry or lightly damp cloth and dry thoroughly.

How should I clean the grinding mechanism?

Use a dry or slightly damp cloth to wipe the grinder. Do not use water or cleaning agents inside the mechanism. Ensure it is completely dry before refilling.

What kind of salt and pepper should I use?

Use dry, coarse salt crystals or whole peppercorns only. Do not use wet or sticky seasonings, as they can clog or corrode the mechanism.

What should I do before storing the mills for a long time?

Remove all salt from the mill before storing. Salt is corrosive and can damage internal components over time, especially in humid environments. Clean and air dry the interior completely.

How do I prevent tarnishing?

  • Store in a dry environment.
  • Avoid contact with rubber or latex materials.
  • Use the mills regularly—frequent use can help minimize tarnish.
  • For longer storage, wrap in acid-free tissue or a tarnish-resistant bag.

Can I use silver dips or chemical cleaners?

No. These can damage the silver’s surface or remove any protective finish. Stick to a quality silver polish and soft cloth.

What is your return and exchange policy?

We guarantee to exchange merchandise or refund your money if you are not completely satisfied within 30 days of original purchase. Please return your item in good condition with its original packaging. Refunds will be issued once we have received the returned item. We are a workshop and open early, our customer service office is manned from 08.15 to 3pm Monday to Thursday and 8.15 to 1pm on Fridays. We Close Bank Holidays and between Christmas and New Year. If you leave us a message we will get back to you at the earliest opportunity.
